On February 14, 2020, Grammy Award Winning Artist, Mýa, celebrated 22 years as an internationally known, singer, songwriter, producer, dancer/choreographer, actor, activist, and philanthropist. A young 18 year old when she released her self- titled, double-platinum debut, Mýa was no stranger to the stage as a performer. From piano lessons at age 5, to studying violin in orchestra through out grade school, gospel choir in high school, studying many styles of dance, majorettes and participating in pageants, recitals, parades, competitions and dance instruction, all led to the preparation for Mya’s big opportunity in the entertainment business.

In 2020, Mýa is still going strong, having just completed an arena tour this past March throughout the UK and Ireland. As she works on her 14th studio project, 10th overall album and an audio book, she is consistently releasing music independently through her very own label Planet 9 of 12 years. “The new audio single “Space & Time” speaks about granting yourself permission to unplug from the world to practice a little self care that goes along way. Louis York (Chuck Harmony & Claude Kelly) collectively wrote the song with me in 2018, and we all thought it’d be an appropriate time in the world to promote self care & healing with an uplifting sounds for the soul.” The music video just premiered on VEVO July 20th, which she shot at home on the U.S. east coast.

Over the past 4 years, Mýa has hosted monthly vegan challenges online accompanied by her Vegan Transition Guide, a FREE starter guide for people interested in transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. Musical Timeline/Highlights:
1998 – 1999 
The debut album Mýa, is released which spawned several massively successful singles. “It’s All About Me,”

“Movin’ On,” “My First Night With You,” “Ghetto Superstar” and “Take Me There” certifying Mýas a pop superstar.

2000 – 2001 Mýa released her second double platinum album, Fear of Flying, featuring the hits “Case of the Ex”, “Free” and “Best of Me” & collaborating with Beenie Man on the international hit “Girls Dem Suga” & Jay Z on the R&B/Hip Hop classic “Best of Me” Part II. In May 2001, Mýcollaborated with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, P!nk and Missy Elliot on a remake of LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade”, which is featured in Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge. Selling over 5.5 million copies, it became the most successful airplay-only single in history, won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration, and went on to collect numerous awards. Mya proceeded recording for soundtracks and also participated in the world musical film Chicagowinning a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for best ensemble cast.

2003-2004 Mýa released her third studio album, the critically acclaimed, Moodring (2003) featuring the hit singles “My Love Is Like Wo,” “Fallen,” the LGBTQ club circuit favorite, “Whatever Bitch” and “Real Compared to What” the 2003 Coca-Cola theme song, for whom Mýa was a spokesperson. “Everything or Nothin,” the theme song for the 2004 video game James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing was also delivered in which Mýa was featured as a Bond Girl. Mýa also played a role in Wes Craven’s Cursed alongside Christina Ricci and Shannon Elizabeth in 2004.

2005 – 2006 In 2005 Mýa moved from Los Angeles, CA back to her hometown to build her own recording studio, start her foundation TMATF (The Mya Arts & Tech Foundation) serving as executive director and teacher of dance and sound engineering. She simultaneously built a local professional team comprised of engineers, producers, musicians, background vocalists, dancers, stylists and choreographers, hitting the road with the first stop being Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In 2006, Mýa made the decision to transfer from Interscope, label Motown, within the Universal Music umbrella to begin working on her 4th Album “Liberation” in which singles “Ayo,” “Lock You Down” and “Ridin’” were released.

2007 Due to her label Motown’s accidental leak of her 4th studio project Liberation, Mýa made the decision to part ways with Motown/Universal after the album was shelved and began her own independent label Planet 9, under which she executive produced, self-engineered, self-funded & released 9 music projects to date.

2008 – 2013 Mýa releases Sugar & Spice LP 2008 (Japan), followed by an international tour, opening up for Prince at The O2 London, starring on CBS’ Secret Talent of the Stars and landing the leading role of Velma Kelly in Chicago the Broadway MusicalHer first year as an independent artist & label was quite rewarding. but performing on Broadway was quickly derailed by a foot injury two weeks before opening night. Unable to perform in a foot cast, she spent the next few months recording her first R&B/Hip Hop mixtape titled Beauty & the Streets Vol 1 released the following year (2009) alongside The Perfect Edition, a double disc album exclusively released in JapanImmediately after recovery, Mýa competed on ABC’s Season 9 of Dancing With the Stars to the finals. Injured from the show, Mya undergoes ankle surgery in 2010, to then recording and releasing her next independent album K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple) exclusive to Japan. One year later after recovery, she runs the 26.2 mile NY ING Marathon and releases the U.S./Canada version of K.I.S.S (2011), World edition of K.I.S.S (2012), and offers a physical mint edition CD in 2013 to fans onine, with song placements in the #FashionByBravo ad campaign on Bravo/NBC Universal and Ford car commercial, while recording her next releases.

2014 – 2015 Mýa releases a series of EP’s: With Love (a slow jams EP released February 14th, Valentine’s Day 2014) marking the 16th anniversary of her debut single “It’s All About Me” (February 14th, 1998). On April 21st, 2014 she released a more upbeat EP Sweet XVI marking the 16th anniversary of her self-titled, debut album Mý(released April 21st, 1998). On February 14th, 2015, Mýa released her 7th independent project Love Elevation Suite EP consisting of all slow jams keeping the Valentine’s Day tradition for her R&B fans alive. “I have recorded hundreds of songs in what appears to be a hiatus to some, so I dug into my archive & independently assemble seasonal appetizers before the main course for my fans who are simply hungry for music from me,” shares Mýa.

2016 – 2017 Mýa released her 12th studio project and 8th studio album Smoove Jones on February 14th. The independent, self-executive produced Planet 9 project was initially released exclusively on Apple Music before being made available on myamya.com and all digital outlets worldwide. The project was accompanied by a digital booklet, a 2016-2017, 17-month physical calendar, vegan chocolate boxes and her very own vegan/organic Planet 9 Fine Wine available on myamya.com. On Dec 31, she completed her 2016 Planet 9 world tour in the Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. On February 13, 2017, Mýa attended the Grammy Awards as Smoove Jones was nominated for Best Traditional R&B album. The achievement was so fulfilling for Mýa as the executive producer, independent label and Artist. Throughout 2017, Mýa toured all 12 months of the year while recording her next project and filming music videos alongside filming the UMC TV Series Fifth Ward Season 1 and joining PETA and Mercy For Animals animal rights campaigns.

2018 – 2019 In the midst of touring, the series 5th Ward premiered March 2, 2018, on Bob Johnson’s new network UMC (Urban Movie Channel) in which Mýa starred as a single mother of three boys. Her ninth studio album and independent project titled T.K.O. (The Knock Out) was released on the 20th anniversary of her debut album April 20, 2018 also delivering music videos for singles “Ready For Whatever,” “You Got Me,” “Damage,” “With You,” and “Down” from the T.K.O. Album, followed by a summer fun record “G.M.O.” (Got My Own) featuring female singer & rapper Tink. An independent collaboration titled “Let There Be Light” was also recorded and released with music legends such as Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and Billy Ray Cyrus for Feeding America. http://YouTube/com/MyaVEVO. 2020

In 2020, Mýa released a music video for “The Truth” a fan favorite from her Love Elevation Suite EP on Valentine’s Day, an audio single on 4/20 titled “You Got Me Part II” paying homage to her 90’s R&B roots, influences and fans on her 22nd debut album Anniversary. On April 25, the Fear of Flying sophomore album Expanded Edition was released by Universal Music Group on its 20th Anniversary, with single “Case of the Ex” appearing on HBO’s Insecure episode, and several music videos released in HD on Youtube including Best of Me, Case of the Ex, Free and Lady Marmalade. On May 29th, Mya released “Space & Time” a Louis York Production, which speaks to the climate of the world today with the music video release July 20th. Amidst the global pandemic, Mýa is focused on completing her 10th album, whilst delivering new virtual online experiences with her fans from charitable meet & greets, personalized video messages, online interviews and performances whilst recording collaborations and conducting her monthly vegan challenges accompanied by exclusive, philanthropic, virtual, vegan, cooking classes. Her latest TV Series “5th Ward” premiere July 20th with new episodes airing every Thursday on UMC (Urban Movie Channel). From 1998 to 2001, she was the spokesperson for Secret to Self Esteem. As a philanthropist, Mýa continues to devote her time and resources to various causes. In 2005, Mýa founded The Mýa Arts & Tech Foundation (TMATF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing disadvantaged youth growth and opportunities through arts & technology education. She serves as both Executive Director and teacher. She is also an advocate of breast cancer awareness as her mother is a 20-year survivor. She’s collaborated with the Lifetime Television Network in the “Stop Breast Cancer for Life” campaign, recording “My Bra” a song sold on iTunes donating 100% of proceeds to breast cancer research. She’s also participated in several Revlon Run/Walks, Susan G. Komen & Habitat for Humanity charitable events, Aviva House in Los Angeles, CA, S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat) based in Washington, DC, providing the homeless with meals, shelter & assistance. In 2016, Mya also became the face of PETA’s Go Vegan campaign. Most recently, Mýa partnered with the Human Rights Campaign for their #LoveConquersHate campaign and currently serves as celebrity ambassador for Africare addressing health, economic development, women’s empowerment & youth engagement. From the Global AIDS fight, to aiding homeless LGBT youth via Skool’d, to advocating equality with the NOH8 campaign, Mýa also ran the 26.2-mile NYC ING Marathon to raise funds for the world’s largest no-kill animal shelter & organization, North Shore Animal League America.
